Where is it?
Port Douglas is 145º 20' E and 15º 55' S, an hour's scenic coastal drive north of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. Most visitors arrive via Cairns and can choose from a variety of transport options to get from there to Port Douglas. Port Douglas is the nearest mainland town to the Great Barrier Reef.
How to get there
Cairns airport serves both international and domestic flights, and is just 60 km from Port Douglas. Check respective airlines for international flights. Daily domestic Qantas flights from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, Ayers Rock, Darwin and Hamilton Island. Virgin Blue offers daily flights from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Visitors can then choose from car hire, minibus, coach (Coral Coaches, Greyhound Pioneer), helicopter or Quicksilver catarmaran to get to Port Douglas.

Port Douglas is the gateway to Cape York, Daintree, Cape Tribulation and Cooktown. Sealed roads end at Daintree, although access by 2WD vehicles is still possible to some extent in the Dry season. Here you will find World Heritage-listed pristine rainforest, and the only place in Australia where the rainforest fringes the sea, along the magnificent Coral Sea coast.

Queensland Rail has two trains which travel from Brisbane to Cairns five times per week. The Sunlander has seats and berths and takes 31 hours. The Tilt Train only offers business class seats and takes 25 hours.
